British Values

North Lincolnshire Adult Education and Community Learning is committed to promoting the fundamental British Values as outlined by the Government.

The four British Values are:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs and those without faith

Adult Education & Community Learning follows equal opportunities guidance which guarantees that there will be no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status, or similar. Individual members can feel safe, valued and can contribute for the good of themselves and others.

These principles are embedded into all the learning programmes and are promoted by all staff.

Democracy
We encourage learners to participate in class discussions and decision-making processes, and provide opportunities for learners to engage with current events and political issues.

Rule of Law
We emphasise the importance of following rules and regulations, both in and out of the classroom, and by discussing real-life examples of the rule of law in action.

Individual Liberty
We encourage learners to think for themselves and make their own choices, within the boundaries of the law. This could include activities that promote critical thinking and independent learning, as well as discussions about personal responsibility and the importance of respecting others’ liberties.

Mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs and those without faith
We promote understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures and beliefs, and provide opportunities for learners to learn from and interact with people from different backgrounds.

The most useful thing I have learned so far is to be more confident to speak with British people about their culture.

Agnieszka Galeska

The most useful thing I have learned so far is democracy. In the future, I would like to use my knowledge acquired during the course in my work.
