Entry Requirements 
You must be 19+ years of age by 31 August 2020. You have to have been a resident in the European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 years or be a family member of an EEA national. You are expected to attend and be punctual at all sessions.

This qualification aims to:

  • Increase understanding of the meaning and importance of infection control
  • Increase understanding of the causes of infections, the conditions in which they thrive and the ways that they can spread
  • Increase the understanding of the methods used to prevent and control the spread of infection

You are required to successfully complete 4 mandatory units:

  • Unit 01 Understanding the causes and spread of Infection
  • Unit 02 Principles of prevention and control of Infection
  • Unit 03 Understanding the importance of maintaining a clean environment
  • Unit 04 Explore the importance of the relevant regulations and government policies                 

Suitable for
Useful if you are working in health care settings. It will be a suitable qualification for CPD. There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements. However, it would be helpful if you already have a Level 1 qualification.
Delivery method
This is a distance learning course that requires independent study using a set of study resources. Your tutor will assess your work by written tasks set via candidate assessment workbooks. You will be expected to attend monthly tutorials with your tutor.
Assessment
You will be given constructive feedback and time to reflect on how to change and improve your work. You will complete four written assessments.

  • provide a general understanding of different types of medication and their use.
  • Increase knowledge of the procedures for obtaining, storing, administering and disposing of medications.
  • Provide an understanding of legislation and the audit process related to medication and issues of responsibility and accountability.

You are required to successfully complete 4 mandatory units.

  • Unit 01  Understand medication and prescriptions
  • Unit 02  Understand the process of record keeping and audit
  • Unit 03  Consider and understand the supply, storage and disposal of medication
  • Unit 04  Understand the requirements for the safe administration of medicines
