CONTENT & OVERVIEW
The course provides you with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children. During the course you will be expected to:
- produce a portfolio of evidence showing knowledge and competence in a range of subjects including:
- children and young people’s development
- supporting positive behaviour
- health and safety
- professional relationships
- be observed in your workplace
- produce a display
- complete a weekly learner journal

This course is aimed at people working, or volunteering, in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools as well as colleges.
Visit the centre to enrol.
You must be 19+ years of age by 31 August 2019. There are no formal entry requirements, but you must have a keen interest in the subject, a good level of English and the ability to work independently.
You MUST have a current DBS certificate and be working or volunteering in a learning environment with pupils aged 5 and above.
A variety of teaching and learning strategies will be employed in the classroom.
You will be taught relevant topics through activities and discussion and undertake independent research. Your tutor will assess your work by written assignment via Google Classroom.
You will be expected to work for up to 5 hours per week on activities at home, as directed by your tutor.
The course is continuously assessed using a variety of assessments – you will complete written assignments and a learner journal.
Guidance is given throughout the course regarding opportunities and careers. Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress onto the CACHE/NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning or study to become a teacher.
You will need to bring a notebook and pen with you.

If you are in receipt of the following benefits, you may be eligible for full fee remission:
- Job Seeker’s Allowance
- Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) in the Work Related Activity Group (WRAG)
- Universal Credit and earning less than £338.00 a month (single claim) or £541.00 (household claim)
- Aged 19-23 yrs studying a first full Level 2 qualification
Fee remission is also available for eligible co-funded learners who are employed but on a low income (less than £16,009.50 annual gross salary)
